Blackout lifted for Chargers-Cowboys

Enough tickets have been sold to lift the local television blackout and allow Southern California to see the live telecast of the Chargers-Cowboys game on Saturday night, Aug. 21 at Qualcomm Stadium. Kickoff is 6 pm PT.

A limited number of Club Level tickets and tickets returned by the visiting team are still available at the Chargers’ ticket office at Gate C at Qualcomm Stadium, at www.Chargers.com and through TicketMaster at 800-745-3000. The ticket office is open Friday from 8-5 pm and Saturday beginning at 10 am.

The game will be televised live in the following markets:

  • San Diego … KFMB-TV (Ch. 8) 
  • San Diego & Tijuana … XEWT-TV (Ch. 12, Spanish) 
  • Los Angeles … KCBS-TV (Ch. 2) 
  • Santa Barbara … KCOY-TV & KKFX-TV (Chs. 10 & 11)

  • Fresno … KGPE-TV (Ch. 47)

Ron Pitts handles the play-by-play and Billy Ray Smith handles color commentary on Chargers’ preseason TV telecasts.

Fans also can listen to the game live on radio beginning on KIOZ Rock 105.3 FM and XTRA Sports 1360 AM in San Diego with Josh Lewin and Hank Bauer calling the action from the booth and Mike Costa reporting from the sideline. The Chargers Radio Network includes KGEO 1230 AM in Bakersfield; KNWH 1250 AM in the Yucca Valley; KNWQ 1140 AM in Palm Springs; KNWZ 970 AM & 94.3 FM in the Coachella Valley; KOSS 1380 AM in Palmdale and Lancaster; KSPA 1510 AM in Ontario, Rancho Cucamonga and the Inland Empire; KATY 101.3 FM in Temecula and the Inland Empire; KWDJ 1360 AM in Ridgecrest; KCAL 96.7 FM in Riverside and San Bernardino; KXO 107.5 FM in the Imperial Valley and Yuma, Arizona; KVFG 103.1 in Victorville and Hesperia; ESPN Radio 1100 AM in Las Vegas; KUPA 1370 AM in Hawaii; and Sirius Satellite Radio.

The game will be broadcast in Spanish on XHFG 107.3 FM in San Diego, KWKW 1330 AM in Los Angeles, XHSOL 89.9 FM in Mexicali, Mexico and XEHS 1590 AM in Ensenada. Jorge Villanueva and Dante Lazcano will call the action.
Fans are urged to use mass transit or carpool, and arrive EARLY. To avoid heavy traffic around the stadium on Interstates 8 and 15, fans can reach the stadium via the Friars Rd. East exit off of Highway 163.

Fans reminded to arrive early for the Chargers-Cowboys game

With a capacity crowd expected for Saturday’s Chargers-Cowboys game, fans should expect delays getting to Qualcomm Stadium and into the parking lot.

The parking lot will open at 2 p.m. and, as usual, is expected fill quickly. A limited amount of paid overflow parking is available in the parking lot of theChicago Title building, which is located off Northside Drive, west of the stadium. Additional overflow parking is also available at the Town and Country Hotel (I-8 and Hotel Circle), the Marriott Mission Valley (Qualcomm Way and Rio San Diego Dr.) and San Diego State University (I-8 and College Ave. Rates and parking lots vary). Fans can ride the San Diego Trolley to the stadium from each of these parking locations. A paid Trolley ticket is required before boarding the Trolley to the stadium.

The stadium entry gates will open at 4 p.m. for general ticket holders and at 3 p.m. for Club ticket and Suite ticket holders.

Fans are encouraged to ride the Trolley to the stadium. The San Diego Trolley is the number-one mode of transportation to the stadium. Fans can ride the Trolley on the Green Line between Old Town and Santee before and after all games. Charger fans will have increased options along the Green Line from the East County, including:

  • El Cajon Transit Center (Main St. at Marshall) 
  • Grossmont Transit Center (8601 Fletcher Parkway at Grossmont Center Dr.) 
  • Grantville (I-8 at Mission Gorge) 

Fans can also pick up the Trolley at:

  • Hazard Center (parking is free on Hazard Center’s lower level, corner of Friars Road and Frazee) 
  • Old Town Transit Center (Pacific Highway at Taylor Street) 

The Green Line begins running three hours before kickoff. Buy a $5 Day Pass at ticket vending machines before boarding. Commemorative Day Passes are also sold in advance at The Transit Store at 1st and Broadway and at the Chargers Team Store at Qualcomm Stadium, Gate G. The MTS Chargers Express Bus and Chargers North County Express Coach will not be in service for the preseason games.

Amtrak will only have regularly-scheduled service available on the Amtrak Pacific Surfliner to Downtown San Diego. Fans will need to purchase Trolley tickets before boarding the trolley to the stadium. For schedule and ticket information, contact Amtrak at 1-800-USA-RAIL or go to Amtrak.com.

Fans attending all Chargers home games need to be aware that the City of San Diego plans to aggressively enforce two City ordinances. Smoking is prohibited inside the stadium and glass bottles are banned from the parking lot. The San Diego Police Department and Elite Security will be strictly enforcing these ordinances and violators will be prosecuted. In an effort to assure a safe and enjoyable game-day experience, every fan entering Qualcomm Stadium will be subject to a “pat-down” search.

Chargers receive 24-hour extension to lift blackout

The National Football League granted the Chargers a 24-hour extension in an effort to sell enough tickets and lift the local television blackout of Saturday’s Chargers-Cowboys game at Qualcomm Stadium. The game kicks off at 6 pm.

The team now has until 6 pm PT on Thursday to sell the remaining 1,000 tickets. Club seats – some of the best seats in the stadium – also are available.

Tickets may be purchased by logging onto www.CHARGERS.com, calling 1-800-745-3000 or visiting the Chargers Ticket Office located at Gate C at Qualcomm Stadium.

Chargers season tickets and four-game Family Section Packs for the 2010 season also are on sale. They can be purchased by visitingwww.CHARGERS.com, calling 877-CHARGERS, or stopping by the Chargers’ ticket office on Monday-Friday from 8-5 pm and 10-4 pm on Saturday.
